the Beauty and the beast, een alias voor fotografen Rene Heitmuller en Felice Derkinderen die samen beelden creëren sinds 1990. Foto's die teruggaan naar de essentie, de belangrijste kwaliteit van een ding, een mens.

Heitmuller (1960) en Derkinderen (1968) studeerden beiden fotografie aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag en werkten daarna als zelfstandig fotograaf in Amsterdam. Nadat ze elkaar ontmoetten in 1990 begonnen ze samen beelden te maken onder de naam the Beauty and the beast. Vanaf dat moment werkten ze succesvol samen voor zowel commerciële als redactionele klanten en persoonlijke projecten binnen Nederland en daarbuiten.

Hun werk werd opgenomen in verschillende nationale en internationale boeken, catalogi, annuals en tijdschriften en werd geëxposeerd op fotofestivals in en buiten Nederland. Critici beschrijven hun fotografie als uitgekleed tot de essentie, monumentaal en tijdloos met onze tijd erin gevangen.

the Beauty and the beast / photo art and design

This is the website of art, fashion and advertising photographers Rene Heitmuller and Felice Derkinderen creating images together.
Heitmüller (1960) and Derkinderen (1968) both studied photography at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague (the Netherlands) and started working as independent photographers in Amsterdam. After meeting eachother in 1990 they started creating images together under the alias the Beauty and the beast. Since then Heitmüller and Derkinderen have succesfully worked together for both commercial and editorial clients as personal projects in the Netherlands and abroad. Their work was published in many international and national books, catalogues, annuals and magazines and was exhibited at photofestivals in and outside the Netherlands. Critics described their photography as stripped to the substance of things, statuesque and timeless with this time caught in it. Their work is sold at the online gallery for dutch vintage photography Vintagephoto.
